Too long; will read.
Records your calls. Gives you every word, and the notes that matter.
Download for MacmacOS 15 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
Join the call. earful does the rest.
Spots the call. Records from join to hang-up. Films the screen in one click. Writes it up as you leave.
Records itself
Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, in the browser or the app. A green dot in the menu bar shows when it is on.
Never joins the call
No bot in the participant list. earful listens on your Mac, to your side and theirs, as two clean tracks.
Transcript and notes
Who said what, with timestamps, then a summary with decisions and actions. Export as text or send it to Claude or ChatGPT.
Your language
Transcribes 25 languages on your Mac, and dozens more with an ElevenLabs key. Notes and translations in 14.
Noise cancellation
"Just me" removes background noise and voices from other rooms. "Room" keeps everyone around the table and tells them apart in the transcript.
Teleprompter
Paste a script and it scrolls in a small island at the top of your screen, right beside your camera. Drive it with shortcuts mid-call.
Your library lives on your Mac.
Every recording, transcript and note is stored on your Mac, not in a cloud, titled and filed from your calendar invite. Search it, play back any moment, name a speaker in one click. Want the space back? Export recordings and notes to iCloud Drive, Dropbox or any drive you choose.
Q4 planning
No subscription. Pennies per call.
earful is free. Calls are transcribed on your own Mac at no cost. You only pay the AI provider for the notes, with your own key, and nothing in the months you do not record.
Billed by the minute, not the hour: a 10-minute call costs a sixth of these, so four 10-minute calls cost less than one hour-long call.
a month for four hours of calls every working day, transcribed and written up.
One OpenAI key for the notes. Add an ElevenLabs key for languages your Mac does not cover. Claude works for notes too.
Or run all of it on your Mac. $0.
Transcripts are already made on your Mac. Add a free local model for the notes, through Ollama or LM Studio, and nothing ever leaves your laptop and there is nothing to pay. The price is time and memory: the notes take a few minutes after each call, and better models need a bigger Mac.
Transcription itself needs only 0.5 GB and runs on any Apple silicon Mac: an hour of audio takes about 3 minutes, measured on an 8 GB M1. Notes times are estimates and vary with the model and the Mac.
Three minutes, once.
Download
Open earful.dmg and drag earful into Applications.
Open it
A short setup window walks you through each permission, and asks whether you want AI notes, on your Mac, or none at all.
Take a call
That is it. The ear in your menu bar does the rest.
Each one has a reason: the invite details, your voice, the other side of the call, knowing when you have actually joined, and the clean microphone.
They stay on your Mac.
Recordings, transcripts and notes are saved on your Mac and nowhere else. Audio transcribed on your Mac never leaves it: only the transcript text goes to your AI provider to write the notes. If a call goes to ElevenLabs instead, its audio comes straight back as text.
Want nothing to leave your Mac at all? Set Notes to Off, or to a model on your Mac, and earful keeps every recording, transcript and translation on your laptop. It still records and transcribes, free.
earful does not announce itself on calls. Letting people know you are recording is up to you.
